Every ten years, NC State undergoes the reaffirmation of accreditation process as outlined in the guidelines and procedures established by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The university completed its most recent reaffirmation in 2014.
In between decennial reaffirmations, SACSCOC requires institutions to submit a Fifth-Year Interim Report. According to SACSCOC, the interim review “was developed to respond to the U.S. Department of Education’s requirements [that] (1) accrediting bodies continuously monitor institutions to ensure compliance, and (2) accrediting bodies have a mechanism for reviewing multiple sites initiated since last reaffirmation.”

The 2018 Edition of the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation: Foundation for Quality Enhancement was adopted December 2017 and became effective January 1, 2018.
