Your Application to the Online Statistics Programs

Have questions about prerequisites and requirements for your application to the Online Statistics programs? In order to make the application process easy to complete for prospective students, we’ll explore in the process in detail in this month’s blog post.

Students have four opportunities a year to begin online courses for Statistics programs, which is why there are four application periods per year. Students should apply by March 25th for Summer I session, apply by May 10th for Summer II, apply by June 25th for fall enrollment, and November 25th for the spring semester. NC State’s Graduate school has certain requirements for admissions, and the Department of Statistics Online Graduate Program has additional admissions requirements as well.

All applications are now easily done online and combine a series of materials which are taken into consideration for admission. These materials include:

  • An unofficial transcript from each of the previous colleges, universities or any other educational institutions you have attended.
  • The online graduate degree program requires students to provide three references, which should be from relevant past professors, employers or mentors.
  • References are optional for online certificate applicants, but may be taken into consideration if included in your application.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Non-US applicants are required to take a Proof of English Proficiency examination which they can do so with a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. Students who are from countries where English is the language of instruction in higher education, or who have successfully completed one year at a U.S. college or university, may not need to take a proficiency exam.

The most important aspect of the application is the personal statement. Use the personal statement as a way to showcase your experience and knowledge base and as a place to explain why you want to be a part of the NC State online programs. The personal statement is a way for the admissions committee to get to know you a bit better in order to determine how you may fit into the programs. You may want to highlight the previous courses or work you have done within the subject area of statistics or take the opportunity to explain lack of experience or gaps in your resume or educational profile.

Degree applicants are not required to provide a GRE test score for admission to the Online Statistics Master’s program.

Once you have all your materials together, you may then submit your application online. You will create log in credentials to the NC State applicants portal, so that you will be able to check your application’s status at any time.

Your application will first be reviewed by the Statistics Admissions committee, which will then forward its recommendations to the Graduate School for final approval and processing.

NC State strives to make the online application process as streamlined and easy to submit as possible. Read our FAQs or reach out to an admissions counselor if you have any further questions about admissions to the Statistics Online Graduate Degree and Certificate programs.
