Career goals

For as long as she can remember, Wan has been interested in understanding how and why things work – which led her to the field of marketing and piqued her interest in data analytics. Looking ahead, she hopes to become a digital marketing expert and believes the Master of Management, Marketing Analytics (MMA) program will give her the skills needed to get there. “My goal is to become a leading expert in digital marketing – either offering services as a marketing consultant for small businesses or working in marketing operations,” she says.

“The MMA program helps me bridge the gap between marketing strategy and data science, positioning me to make a meaningful impact on the businesses I want to work with,” she continues. “It aligns with my curiosity and desire to understand what connects people to their decisions – and it strikes an excellent balance between the art and science of marketing. I feel equipped to analyze data and translate it into actionable insights that drive real and impactful results.”

Why Jenkins?

Wan began exploring the Jenkins MBA program after seeing a Facebook ad for the One Day to MBA opportunity. “I was intrigued and decided to explore further,” she remembers. “The Poole College of Management website made it easy to understand what a degree from NC State would offer.”

She then began researching the Jenkins MBA program’s Marketing Certificate and stumbled across the MMA program – and quickly decided to attend an info session. “Allison and Rishika were incredibly kind, welcoming and supportive of my interest in joining the program, which made me genuinely excited to become part of the cohort,” she says. “As I planned my MBA coursework, I felt there were so many classes I wanted to take beyond the MBA credits, and realized that doing a dual-degree with the MMA program was the perfect solution – offering me the opportunity to dive deeper into the analytics side of marketing and expand my expertise.”

Daily life

As content marketing manager for Roofer Marketers and founder of Sidewalk Marketing Co., Wan manages teams to build brands, implement content marketing strategies and help businesses grow and achieve their goals. “After work, I spend time with my husband and kids and then work on school after the kids go to bed. I love cooking, exploring new restaurants and eateries in the area, traveling, hiking and thinking of new business ideas!”

What makes it great

In addition to the MMA program curriculum, Wan values the culture of camaraderie at NC State and the opportunities to learn alongside peers. “One of the aspects of the MMA program I value most is the sense of community. I’ve appreciated the opportunities to connect with other students who are just as excited about being here as I am – and so far, everyone I’ve met has been very supportive and eager to help. There was one particular class where I was struggling with a project, and when I reached out to a few classmates, we were able to collaborate and help each other succeed.”

Career impact

Wan particularly appreciates the opportunity to expand her skillset with in-demand, specialized analytics techniques and supplement her professional experience in marketing with an advanced degree program. “I didn’t have a formal degree in marketing; I fell into it and realized that I really enjoyed it. The MMA program has helped me fill the gaps in my marketing knowledge, particularly in the area of data analytics,” she says. “I’ve also noticed a significant improvement in my ability to share and present ideas to others. The program has deepened my understanding of the field and business acumen so that I can be a more effective team player and manager.”
