A Variety of Delivery Formats
At NC State, Online and Distance Education programs are offered and supported using one of three delivery formats: Online, Hybrid — A mix of online and onsite, Onsite — face to face at locations remote from the NC State Campus.
The majority of our programs are delivered online. Some programs may require visits to campus (or a remote location) for assignments or exams. All programs are marked with an icon symbolizing its delivery mode. Make sure to check the programs in which you are interested for their delivery modes.
Fully Online Programs
Interactive, Online, Flexible
Fully online programs are the fastest growing format of Online and Distance Education programs at NC State for the schedule flexibility they offer in coordination with the university academic calendar. Many online courses include lecture videos, activities and other media, accessed from NC State’s WolfWare website. Online students can interact with both their instructor and their peers using online communication tools from our state-of-the-art learning management systems. Assignments are most commonly submitted electronically. Tests are generally proctored at a site convenient to the student or administered online.
Blending Online and Onsite
A hybrid course has content delivered both in class and online. The online content delivery may occur synchronously (all students meet online at the same time) or asychronously (students log in to the course material on their own schedule). Face-to-face class meetings make up about 25% of the course hours.
Some NC State Online and Distance Education programs are offered in a site-based, face-to-face format at locations remote from the NC State campus. These courses require attendance at exact dates and times.
