How to Apply
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must meet one (1) of the three (3) following requirements to apply to a YFCS graduate certificate program:
- Be a graduate of an accredited four-year college or university, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 at the time of graduation,
- Be a degree student in good standing in a NC State University graduate program, or
- Have a master’s degree.
How to Apply to the Youth, Family, and Community Sciences Online Graduate Certificate Program
Step 1: Apply to the online Graduate Certificate Program
The Graduate School oversees the application process for each program. The Graduate School has its own criteria for admission, but the Youth, Family, and Community Sciences Online Graduate Program has specific admissions requirements as well.
Requirements for the application process include:
- Unofficial undergraduate transcripts from a 4 year accredited university or college
- One page statement of purpose
- Resume (optional)

You can check the status (opens in new tab) of your application at any time. International students must include complete transcripts, a degree statement and TOEFL or IELTS scores. Applicants should have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
Step 2: Register for Classes
Once admitted, you will receive an NC State student ID, password, and username, which you will use to register for courses. Visit the YFCS Online Courses webpage to peruse course descriptions. Should you have any questions or need assistance with determining your course workload, contact our Director of Graduate Programs, Dr. Annie Hardison-Moody.
Go to MyPack Portal to register for classes. MyPack Portal is also a self-service system for students to update personal or academic information as well as a way to review semester schedules.
Step 3: Pay Your Tuition
You may visit Distance Education Tuition and Fees to complete the tuition payment process. All inquiries regarding payments and cost of tuition should be directed to the cashier’s office.
This early enrollment will generate a tuition bill, which must be paid by its due date in order to hold the seat. Closer to the start of the Fall semester, we will send you more information about NC State’s Wolfware course management system for accessing course content.
Coursework
Not ready to enroll in the certificate yet? You can still take classes! Classes taken independent of a certificate or degree program may be used to satisfy continuing education requirements or, if approved, be applied toward a certificate or degree program in the future.
