North Carolina State University is a leading research university committed to innovation and research in addressing the challenges of our future. Our microbiology programs are part of that mission. NCSU is home to more than 50 microbiology faculty in several departments and colleges throughout our campus.
NC State is the only university in North Carolina offering a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. In addition, NC State offers an undergraduate Microbiology Minor and an online Microbiology Certificate available to non-degree students. Graduate programs include those leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Microbiology, as well as the non-thesis Master’s of Microbiology and Master’s of Microbial Biotechnology degrees.
Microbiology Online courses are taken by on-campus students as part of their undergraduate or graduate degree programs, and are also available to off-campus, non-degree studies students to take individually, or as part of the Microbiology Undergraduate Certificate.
Microbiology Online courses are offered during the regular terms and first summer session at North Carolina State University (NCSU) and you will take them together with other students, many of whom are enrolled in degree programs at the University. Academic advisers are available to help you choose a course, and navigate the system for admission to NCSU and registration for classes.
As a student in our online courses, you will have access to academic advisers. Our advisers can provide guidance in choosing a course, offer academic support for a course in-progress, or help design a plan of study to meet your individual needs. We are invested in your success in our program!
We have classes to fit your schedule. Most of our online courses are offered year-round. Additionally, summer courses are offered at an accelerated pace. Our online courses are asynchronous, meaning that you don’t have to be online at any specific times, and fit into your busy life.
What’s an Online Course Like?
Our online courses are delivered through an interactive learning platform which leverages tools such as Moodle and Blackboard Collaborate. Courses feature a variety of learning materials including audio lectures, videos, and slide sets. We employ proctored exams offered through remote proctoring centers or ProctorU, a virtual proctoring service.
