Engineering Management Foundations

The online Graduate Certificate in Engineering Management Foundations (EMF) explores critical analytical, science and engineering talents while introducing essential management skills. This certificate provides the skills necessary to manage successful engineering teams in today’s complex technical environments.

Eligibility

Applicants should have a STEM or other relevant bachelor’s degree. Application to the program requires an online application form, transcripts of all academic work after high school, and a written personal statement. GRE scores are not required for admission.

Academic success might have a strong bearing on admission to a degree program but completion of a certificate program in no way guarantees entry into a graduate degree program, which is done through a separate application process. Students interested in further graduate study should consult the DGCP and the DGP of their intended degree program on degree admission requirements.

Plan of Study

The certificate requires that you take 12 credit hours of engineering management graduate courses. The curriculum addresses the following topic areas for engineering management:

  • Quantitative literacy / Student choice
  • Leadership and communication
  • Project management and coordination
  • Financial Competency

Career Prospects

In addition to the expected foundation of science, math, physics and mechanics, engineering managers are expected to be versed in finance, business management, accounting and statistics. They must understand how related fields of engineering intersect, and how to manage people, budgets and resources.
